Net Impact

Who are we?

Net Impact is a global organization committed to inspire and equip emerging leaders to build a more just and sustainable world. UNC Kenan-Flagler’s Net Impact Chapter’s mission is to build upon the UNC Kenan-Flagler tradition of leadership in sustainable business practices by providing students with education, opportunity, and inspiration to drive social, financial and environmental change. Our Net Impact club is a Gold Chapter, which is an honor from the Net Impact organization recognizing chapters that go above and beyond in providing their members opportunities to make an impact in their community, learn and grow as individuals and engage with the larger Net Impact community.

What do we offer?

Careers with Impact Forum: The Careers with Impact Forum is an annual event held in fall to education and inspire our students to incorporate “impact” in whatever career path they choose. Net Impact partners with a variety of Career Clubs, such as Real Estate, Technology and Healthcare, to host panels and speakers that explore topics of inclusion and sustainability in their field.

Invest4Impact: In 2006, the UNC Net Impact Club launched the Invest for Impact Competition (formerly Sustainable Venture Capital Investment Competition). This national annual competition gives students from top business schools a real-world venture capitalist experience as well as awareness of double or triple bottom line valuation techniques.

MBA FoodCon: MBA FoodCon is an annual conference that celebrates the food and agri-business community. The business schools of UNC, NC State University, and Duke University co-sponsor this one-day conference each year.

Student Events: In addition to the above, we provide numerous opportunities for students to learn through Learning and Development Career Trainings, guest speakers, Career Treks, Weekly Newsletters, Co-sponsored events with both Career Clubs and Diversity clubs, and more.

What are the Stacia L. Wood Social Impact Summer Grants (SISG)?

The 2014-15 Net Impact Club, in partnership with the Full-Time MBA Program and the Center for Sustainable Enterprise, launched the UNC Kenan-Flagler Social Impact Summer Grants (SISG), renamed the Stacia L. Wood Social Impact Summer Grants in 2018. This program provides financial support to MBA students utilizing business skills during their summer internship with organizations that make a positive social impact. The grants will supplement the salaries of UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA students who take qualified positions using business core competencies in organizations that otherwise could not afford to pay for an MBA intern. Students will enhance the capacity of the host organization to make a long-term positive impact on the community and/or industry while also raising awareness about social and environmental impact strategies at UNC Kenan-Flagler.

What do we strive for?

UNC Kenan-Flagler’s Net Impact Club encourages MBA students to be business visionaries and empowers them to act on those ideas. The Club believes that the skills of a well-rounded MBA and the network Net Impact provides can be leveraged across all sectors and stakeholder groups, from corporations and partnerships to not-for-profit organizations and governmental agencies.
