Sandy F. Paz y Miño Villegas is a senior at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) and is originally from Lima, Peru. She is pursuing a double major in Behavioral and Social Science and Interdisciplinary Studies, with a concentration in Race, Gender and Class, and a minor in Women and Gender Studies. Her approach to education is deeply intersectional, as she believes in considering social, cultural and political structures and identities to gain a comprehensive understanding of the overlapping systems of oppression and privileges that contribute to the shaping of our experiences.

She has a strong interest in the digital humanities and digital media, particularly in utilizing the power of visual storytelling to evoke emotions, convey messages and create lasting impact. She believes that addressing societal inequities requires a multifaceted approach which lets us foster inclusive dialogue, challenge systemic barriers and work towards creating a more just and equitable society. This summer, she is thrilled to be part of the ACES internship program, where she will be researching the topic of food, agriculture and food insecurity. She is eager to delve deeper into understanding the complexities of food insecurity and explore how companies can play a direct role in supporting local communities while being accountable for their global impact. She believes that addressing food insecurity necessitates innovative solutions that combine social responsibility, sustainability, community engagement and systemic change.
